The Amazing Race was a great success! Many thanks to Archbishop Lipscomb, our teens, our youth ministers & chaperones, our pastors & seminarians, our presenters, our volunteers and our staff! It was amazing to see so many young people and adults dedicated to youth come together to worship, learn and play! You all made this Conference an amazing event!

As for the Scavenger Hunt...

There were 5 challenges that each team had to solve.

Challenge #1 – Books of the Bible

In the first challenge each team was given a list of 5 or 6 books of the Bible that had to be put in order. There were 3 different lists, each one of increasing difficulty. No team chose the easiest list. All but one team chose the most difficult list. Only 10 teams were able to put the books in the correct order.

Challenge #2 – Names in the Bible

In the second challenge each team was to list as many people in the Bible who had their name changed. The teams were to provide each person’s original name and then the new name. Only 8 teams were able to come up with all of the correct names (both old and new). Some teams had the given names and new names switched around and therefore did not receive credit. Some teams gave us alternative names for the same person such as Levi and Matthew or Thomas and Didymus. We wanted the names of people whose names were changed by God/Jesus. We had a couple of teams who gave us the names of Hadassah and Esther. We had not anticipated this pair so we looked it up that night. We believe that this was not technically a name change but two names for the same person. But since we weren’t sure we gave those teams credit anyway.

Challenge #3 – Catholic Life

In the third challenge teams could choose to answer one of three questions of varying difficulty pertaining to our Catholic Faith. Once again, no team chose the easiest challenge. Eight teams chose the 10 point question while 12 teams chose the 20 point question. For the 10 point question we wanted you to name the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit. Five out of the eight teams got this one right. Some of the gifts go by several names and some of the teams listed the same gift but with a different name. For the 20 point question we wanted you to list the Corporal Works of Mercy and give and example of how you can practice each one. Only 4 teams were able to do this correctly. Quite a few teams could not remember “Give drink to the thirsty”.

Challenge #4 – Saints

The fourth challenge comprised of a list of saints and a list of dates. The teams had to match the saints with their feast days. The team with the least amount of correct answers matched up 4 feast days and the most feast days correctly identified was 15. There were 25 saints/days total. Most everyone knew the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption, St. Patrick, and St. Blaise. If you hadn’t noticed, most of the saints listed were the patrons of the parishes in attendance at ACYC.

Challenge #5 – Popes

By far this was the toughest challenge. Each team was shown a list of 87 names. All but 5 of the names are names of popes. The task was to find the 5 names who were not popes. Most everyone got Snoopy and Gesundheidt. The most common names chosen that were indeed popes were Lando and Hilarious. Lando served from 913-914 and St. Hilarius served from 461-468. Most of the teams correctly identified 2 of the false popes while one team correctly identified 4. No one successfully identified all 5.
